Professional portrait of Mr. NasMr. Nas · Education + Technology

I’m Mr. Nas, an educator and education technology developer based in Hong Kong. I’ve taught English since 2021 and have built mobile and web apps since 2018. I combine the two to create English learning activities, materials, and practical tools for teachers, students, and parents.

About

My week spans everything from sounding out first letters with K1 to reading comprehension and story writing with primary students, and everything on this page grew out of a problem I ran into in one of those lessons.

Selected work

Apps and learning materials I’ve designed and built.

Each project started with a real need in education, day-to-day operations or IT. Most were built for Tiny Talents in Hong Kong, and two are my own independent projects.

Behind the work

Three projects, from need to delivery.

An overview of the problem, my contribution and the current result.

01A phonics library built around classroom practiceFrom learning objectives to browser-based activities across four levels.

The need

Young learners need repeated practice with sounds, decoding and blending. This library addresses those skills through activities that can run in a browser.

My contribution

I designed and built the phonics activity library, bringing together teaching experience, learning design, JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas.

Design approach

I organised the activities across four levels and used formats such as memory, matching and word ordering to provide different ways to practise phonics.

Current result

Built a library of 320 activities organised across four phonics levels, providing browser-based practice with sounds, decoding and blending.

02A levelled reading and writing programmeOriginal materials informed by the needs of learners in the classroom.

The need

Students at different stages need reading and writing tasks suited to their current skills. The programme provides a levelled collection of materials for those needs.

My contribution

I wrote and designed 120 original worksheets, drawing on classroom experience and learning research.

Design approach

I structured the collection as a levelled programme and connected reading and writing tasks to the needs I encountered while teaching.

Current result

Delivered 120 original worksheets that are in use at the learning centre as part of the reading and writing programme.

03Bringing learning-centre administration togetherAn application in development for student records, classes, attendance and progress.

The need

Managing a learning centre involves keeping related information about students, classes and attendance accessible in one place.

My contribution

I am designing and developing the school management application using Next.js and PostgreSQL.

Design approach

I grouped the application around the centre’s core administrative tasks: maintaining student records, organising classes, recording attendance and viewing progress.

Current result

The school management application is in development, with the aim of bringing student records, classes, attendance and progress together in one administrative system.
